CBYC angling section would like to thank you for your generous and very kind sponsorship of the 47th staging of the CBYC Open Cod Competition, believed to be one of the UK's largest boat angling competitions. We attracted over 291 anglers on 81 boats this year, from as far as Liverpool and the Isle of Wight.

We managed to get the competition away on its nominated date. We were lucky with the weather which improved dramatically from the winds of earlier in the week. Conditions remained calm all day and provided for boats to fish a wide area of the Bristol Channel in search of the prize winning cod. The competitors did face a major challenge with a lot of flood debris and fresh water in the Bristol Channel following last weeks Storm BERT.

The winning fish was caught by Mark Woodgate on Catchalottie, a local angler based at CBYC, with a fish of 7.225kg (15.91bs). Mark won £1000 cash prize a top end 55L Icey-Tek cool box supplied by Icey-Tek UK and a Lowrance Eagle 9" chartplotter.

In second place by local angler Bob Gregg on NottyBoy landed a cod of 6.95kg (15.31bs). Bob won £300 cash with a 25 litre Icey-Tek cool box and a Lowrance 7" Eagle plotter.

We raised £750 for the RNLI in the evening from a raffle for a tackle box, including various Diawa tackle and clothing, including a rod & reel, donated by the Angling Section and its members.
